College of Arts and Sciences

Supports projects to enhance and advance the quality of the divisions or the college in a manner consistent with its mission.

Provides scholarships for Arts and Sciences students. The college may give preference to interdisciplinary studies.

Supports innovative priorities for the College of Arts and Sciences at the discretion of the dean.

Established March 5, 2003, by funds received from the 2002 Common Wealth Award of Distinguished Service to Drs. Lonnie G. Thompson and Ellen Mosley-Thompson, by the College and by alumni, faculty and staff. Income supports research activities of the ic e core research paleoclimate group for acquisition of a global array of ice cores that provide high-resolution climatic and environmental histories and the preservation of thefrozen ice core archive in storage facilities at Ohio State. If the ice core group ceases to exist, the fund supports the maintenance of the frozen archive. If the frozen archive is no longer necessary, the remaining funds are distributed, in equal increments, to the Byrd Polar Research Center and the Department of Geological Sciences to establish two new endowments.

Supports mental health access for students, and research into causes and treatments for an array of mental health issues.

Provides support for Office of Engagement projects and operations all of which are in direct alignment with the College of Arts and Sciences strategic plan, implementation plan, and mission of the Ohio State University.

Provides financial support for College of Arts and Sciences students participating in unpaid or minimally paid internships, undergraduate research, or experiential learning opportunities.

Supports a collaborative tutoring and learning space specifically for students majoring and/or taking classes in the natural and mathematical sciences.

Supports students majoring in Leadership Studies inclusive of internship stipends, domestic and international travel, research stipends and professional development opportunities.

Supports students in the visual, written and performing arts who are participating in a career related internship.
